Kate McCarthy Design folder

I have had a few interviews so far for different design jobs and have started leaving a folder with a cd of my portfolio, my résumé and business card in it. It makes life easier for all concerned!

Motivation

I made a wish list of all the things I want to get when I get a job (and get paid!). Ranging from simple pleasures (magazines) to pricier luxuries (snowboard), I will tick them all off sometime soon hopefully.

....and I'm in business!

Yay, I got my business cards! I know they are incredibly simple but that's how I wanted it. They correspond to the design of my website too which is very very simple and clean.

Practice makes perfect

Sketches to figure out what to put on handmade cards I sent out to design agencies. So far I haven't gotten any responses. Hopefully this week one of them will offer me an amazing design job!

More doodling

This phrase was graffitied onto a wall near Brick Lane in London. I saw it when I was there on work placement with Imagist London and I thought it was so clever. It's something I want to develop and make into a big poster, maybe using screenprinting or some sort of embroidery.

Lists

Since we moved into our new place there have been loads of things we have had to do - some important, some not so important. So began the priority list!

Birthday Fun

Since we got to Toronto it's been birthday after birthday. We have settled into a routine now of getting the birthday girl or boy some Dufflet cake, some form of alcohol and stuff from Forever XXI. It was Julies birthday last week so myself and my friend Thomas made her this card. Please excuse the quality of the photo, it was taken at night just before we went to give her her present! The giraffe and hedgehogs are wishing Julie the happiest of happy birthdays. As you do.

Give Me A Job Please!

After contacting various design agencies in Toronto looking for work, I followed up with homemade cards featuring illustrations from one of my design projects. I got the card kit in Walmart and it's so useful. Everyone appreciates a homemade card too!

Cards Galore

I arrived in Toronto a few weeks ago on a one year working visa. After many many many days we finally found an apartment bang smack in the middle of the design district to move into! The first while was spent using cardboard boxes as seats and the floor as our table until a lovely woman called Karen donated a couch and table to us. Yippoooooo!  Having a couch to rest our bums on was quite the novelty at this point.
She really didn't realise how thrilled we were with them until I sent her this homemade card.
